Maccallum Seawater Pool

Maccallum Seawater Pool
Description
MacCallum Seawater Pool is a free heritage tidal pool perched on the harbour's edge at Cremorne Point, on Sydney's Lower North Shore. This narrow 33-metre seawater pool looks straight across to the city skyline, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge -- a calm, gate-free harbour dip that feels worlds away from a busy aquatic centre.
Why We Love It
A toddler-friendly shallow end where wide steps sit part-submerged at the harbour-side end, so little ones can paddle and bob while stronger swimmers head for the deeper far end.
The view does the heavy lifting -- you swim looking straight across the harbour to the city skyline, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, with ferries gliding past.
Seawater straight off the harbour in a true tidal pool topped up by the tide, so it feels like an ocean swim with none of the surf or rips.
No gates and no crowds -- there's no entry booth, no kiosk and no lap-lane scrum, just a timber sun deck and a quiet pool the locals have treasured for a century.
History you can swim in: the pool grew from a rock pool shaped by 1900 Olympic gold medallist Freddie Lane and is named for the resident who rebuilt it, Hugh MacCallum.

Tips
Check the cleaning schedule: Filled straight from the harbour, the pool is drained and scrubbed about once a week (tide-dependent). Closure dates are posted on the North Sydney Council website and on the pool gates -- check before you head over.
No lifeguards: The pool is unsupervised and you swim at your own risk. The shallow stepped end suits little ones, but keep them within arm's reach.
No toilets or change rooms on site: The nearest public toilets are up at Cremorne Reserve near the ferry wharf (about 300m); there's just a single cold outdoor shower at the pool.
Take the ferry: It's about a 10-minute ride from Circular Quay to Cremorne Point Wharf (F7 line), then a short walk -- street parking in this residential pocket is very limited.
Pack everything you need: There's no kiosk, so bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hats and towels. Shade on the deck is limited.
Best at sunset: The pool faces west toward the city, so late afternoon delivers golden-hour views over the skyline and Harbour Bridge.
Make a half-day of it: Combine your swim with the Cremorne Point Walk foreshore loop, the headland lighthouse and the playground near Robertson Point.
