    Description

Sydney Park in St Peters is a massive 44-hectare green space that has everything a family outing needs — adventure playground, the largest skate park in Sydney, an award-winning kids' cycling centre, rolling hills with city views, and beautiful wetlands teeming with birdlife. Built on a former brickworks, it's got an industrial-chic edge with heritage kilns dotting the landscape, and enough open space to let even the most energetic kids run themselves into a happy stupor.

    Why We Love It

    • Giant hillside slides built right into the terrain, with four metal slides of varying lengths plus large triangular climbing nets, a suspension bridge, and multi-sensory play elements that keep kids busy for hours.

    • Award-winning cycling centre featuring a mini traffic village with real road signs, roundabouts, zebra crossings, and working traffic lights — perfect for teaching little ones to ride safely (bikes and helmets provided for classes, ages 3-8).

    • Sydney's largest public skate park with a 3-metre-deep flow bowl, beginner and advanced sections, and lights until 9pm for after-school sessions.

    • Generous off-leash dog areas covering most of the park, complete with a dedicated dog paddling pool — so the family pooch gets a day out too.

    • On-site cafe right next to the playground with Sydney Park Kiosk serving coffee, breakfast, and kids' toasties 7 days a week (7am-4pm), so you can actually sit down and refuel.

    • Excellent public transport access with St Peters train station just a 3-minute walk across the road, plus four free car parks around the park.

    • Wheelchair-accessible sandpit raised to adult hip height, along with spongy softfall flooring and inclusive play equipment designed for kids of all abilities.

    Tips

    • Arrive early on weekends: Car parks near the playground (Barwon Park Road) fill fast on sunny weekends. Try the Campbell Street or Euston Road car parks for a better chance at a spot.

    • Bring sun protection: Shade is limited across parts of the playground and open areas. Moreton Bay figs are growing but haven't formed a full canopy yet — hats, sunscreen, and a portable shade shelter are your friends in summer.

    • Not fully fenced: The playground is only partially enclosed, so keep a close eye on runners, especially near park roads and paths.

    • Combine with the Cycling Centre: The kids' cycling track is right next to the playground and offers free-ride access plus structured classes for ages 3-8 with bikes and helmets provided.

    • Wetlands walk: The southern section has beautiful bridges and stepping stones where kids can spot ducks and dragonflies. Note: dogs are not permitted in the wetlands.

    • Nearby dining: King Street Newtown and Erskineville village are a short drive away for more dining options beyond the kiosk.
