    Playground at Westpoint Blacktown

    Description

A free outdoor playground on Level 4 of Westpoint Blacktown, opened December 2023 as the centrepiece of a $19M dining and entertainment precinct upgrade. The kit — climbing nets, ladders, net bridges, slides and balance beams — sits in the middle of a horseshoe of restaurants, with Hoyts, Zone Bowling and Chou Chou Bebe a few steps away.

    Why We Love It

    • Free, properly outdoor, and rooftop-level — actual sky and breeze, which is a rare combo at a Sydney mall and a welcome break from the air-con of the levels below.

    • Climbing nets and net bridges that test balance, not just speed — the kit pitches a step above the toddler-padded playgrounds on the lower levels and gives older primary kids something to puzzle through.

    • Surrounded by the Level 4 dining precinct — Grill'd, casual eats, Hoyts cinema, Zone Bowling and axe throwing all sit within metres, so it's an easy "let them play while you grab lunch" stop.

    • Plenty of seating with sightlines built into the surrounding precinct so you can park yourself at a restaurant table and still keep eyes on the play structure.

    • An easy rainy-day pivot — if the weather turns, the rest of the shopping centre is one escalator down, with food court, cinema and Chou Chou Bebe's paid indoor playground if there's still energy to burn.

    Tips

    • Best for ages 3–10: Climbing nets and net bridges sit a step above the basic slides — under-3s are better off at the padded bee-themed playground on the lower level near the food kiosks.

    • Two other playgrounds inside the centre: If this one's busy, there's a padded playground near Toy Mate and a bee-themed playground under the walkalator on the lower levels — both indoor, both free.

    • Combine with Chou Chou Bebe: If the free outdoor play wraps up too soon, the paid indoor playground at Shop 4012 (same level) has slides, ball pits and role-play rooms.

    • Late-night Thursdays: The centre stays open until 9pm on Thursdays — handy for a late-afternoon run after school followed by an early dinner in the precinct.

    • Pack a hat in summer: The rooftop playground is only partially shaded, and Western Sydney summer sun is no joke up on the open top level.

    • Newer than most: The Level 4 precinct opened December 2023, so the equipment is in much better shape than the older shopping-centre playgrounds across Greater Sydney.
