    Narrabeen Lagoon Trail

    Description

The Narrabeen Lagoon Trail is an award-winning 8.4-kilometre loop around Sydney's largest coastal lagoon on the Northern Beaches -- and it might just be the most family-friendly walk in the city. Completely flat with zero steps, fully pram-accessible, and dotted with four reserves offering playgrounds, BBQs, and toilets -- plus cafes near the Berry Reserve end -- it's the kind of walk where everyone from a baby in a pram to a teen on a bike can genuinely enjoy the outing.

    Why We Love It

    • Fully pram and wheelchair accessible for the entire 8.4km loop with sealed paths and boardwalks, zero steps, and access from four separate car parks -- a rarity for a walk this scenic.

    • Playgrounds at multiple stops including two at Berry Reserve and a large one at Bilarong Reserve with sandpit, sculptured stone creatures, and an enclosed area for younger kids.

    • Nearly 200 bird species make this a wildlife goldmine -- kids can easily spot pelicans napping on lampposts, black swans gliding in groups, ducks, fairy wrens, and sea eagles.

    • Kayak, SUP, and pedal boat hire available at multiple locations around the lagoon, turning a simple walk into a proper adventure day.

    • Free electric BBQs and picnic facilities at all four reserves so you can pack a lunch and make a day of it without spending a cent on food.

    • You don't have to do the full loop -- walk partway and turn back, or try the scenic Jamieson Park to Middle Creek section (2.7km) for the best lagoon and bushland experience.

    Tips

    • Start at Middle Creek: Off Wakehurst Parkway, this reserve has good facilities and a free bike repair stand. Walk clockwise for the scenic western sections first.

    • Some dirt sections after rain: The stretch between Jamieson Park and South Creek (~2km) can get muddy. Boardwalk and paved sections stay accessible.

    • Parking is metered: All four reserve car parks charge approximately $8-10/hr. Free street parking is available on nearby residential streets in North Narrabeen and Wheeler Heights.

    • B-Line bus access: The B1 bus from Wynyard stops right at Narrabeen near the Pittwater Road bridge -- about 50 minutes from the city, no car needed.

    • Dogs on-leash only: The trail requires dogs on-leash. For off-leash, nearby Deep Creek Reserve is the go.

    • Insect repellent: Recommended for the swampier sections, particularly after rain.

    • Berry Reserve markets: Held on the third Sunday of each month -- combine your walk with a browse.
