    Description

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) sits right on Sydney Harbour at Circular Quay, with spectacular views from its rooftop cafe. While contemporary art might sound like grown-up territory, the MCA has a strong kids and families program that makes modern art fun, accessible, and inspiring for children from age 4 and up. Entry is free for under 18s, so it is a great option for families looking for a creative outing in the city.

    Why We Love It

    • Free for under 18s: Kids and teens enter free of charge, making the MCA an affordable family outing even though general adult admission is now $20.

    • School holiday workshops: The MCA runs creative workshops, kids art classes, and guided tours during school holidays, all inspired by the current exhibitions on display.

    • Thursday late nights: Open until 9pm on Thursdays with 2-for-1 tickets for select exhibitions during MCA Late (5-9pm), great for older kids and teens.

    • Inclusive space for those with disabilities: Along with being wheelchair/ pram-friendly, the museum also offer a range of programs and resources to help those with various disabilities to still enjoy the museum. Check this page out for more details.

    • Two options for food & drinks (both with harbour views!): the MCA Cafe at Tallawoladah is located on the ground floor and offers a casual all-day menu. The Canvas restaurant is located on level 4 and is only open for lunch.
