Camperdown Park

Camperdown Park
Description
Camperdown Park is a leafy, heritage-filled green space in the inner west that feels a world away from the surrounding bustle of hospitals and universities. With magnificent Moreton Bay figs offering generous shade, a fenced playground, sports courts, and a clutch of excellent cafes right on the doorstep, it ticks a lot of boxes for a low-key family outing in Camperdown.
Why We Love It
Fenced playground with standout climbing net The 2016-upgraded playground features a custom Corocord climbing net with lookout platform, play tower with slide, bird's nest swing, double swing, four-person seesaw, and two sandpits — enough variety to keep kids busy for a solid stretch.
Spectacular natural shade Mature Moreton Bay figs with dramatic buttress roots provide generous canopy cover across most of the park, making it a genuinely comfortable option even on warmer days.
Cafes that overlook the park Gather on the Green (complete with picnic rugs and table service to park benches) and Store Espresso sit on Fowler Street with direct views of the playground area, providing coffee within sight of the kids.
Camperdown Commons next door Pocket City Farms is right on the boundary with chickens, veggie gardens, and a food forest that kids love exploring, plus a restaurant open Wed–Sun for wood-fired pizzas and lunch.
Free outdoor gym and sports courts A 24/7 outdoor gym, basketball courts, and six bookable tennis courts mean older kids and active parents have plenty to do beyond the playground.
Heritage features worth a wander A Victorian bandstand relocated from Hyde Park in 1911, a WWI memorial, and the sculptural fig tree roots give the park a character most suburban playgrounds simply don't have.

Tips
Dedicated playground page: The park's fully fenced, nature-based playground has its own listing — see Camperdown Park Playground for the equipment rundown, age suitability and play tips.
Check the playground gates: The playground is fenced but reviewers note gates are often left open by other visitors. If you have a toddler who likes to bolt, check and close the gates when you arrive.
Wear shoes in the playground: Bark flooring has been reported to harbour bindii (prickly weed) at times — closed shoes are recommended for kids.
Parking is tight: Street parking fills up fast due to the hospital and university nearby. Check time restrictions carefully as parking inspectors are active. Consider arriving by bus (routes 370, 412, 422, 440).
Tennis courts require booking: The 6 courts are managed by Camperdown Tennis and must be booked online at camperdowntennis.com.au.
Visit Pocket City Farms next door: Camperdown Commons is free to wander with chickens, veggie gardens, and a food forest. The cafe/restaurant is open Wed–Sun.
Dogs on-leash only: Despite dogs running off-leash in practice, Camperdown Park is not on Inner West Council's official off-leash list.
