    Description

Perched on one of the highest points in the Hills, Bella Vista Farm is 26 hectares of open heritage farmland in Bella Vista where the kids can simply run wild. The outer grounds are free and open every day, so most families come to roam the grassy hilltop, fly a kite and wander past the colonial farm buildings that date back to the early 1800s.

    Why We Love It

    • A whole hilltop to run on the open grassland has almost no fences or roads, so little legs can sprint, kick a ball or fly a kite without you hovering.

    • A real working-farm feel the homestead, stables and dairy give a true step-back-in-time vibe, with resident sheep and chooks to spot around the paddocks.

    • A lovely nature themed playground for climbers and adventurers. You can find more details about the Bella Vista Farm Playground here.

    • First-Sunday open days are the main event the heritage homestead and farm buildings only open on the first Sunday of the month, with guided tours, Devonshire teas and live music that older kids actually enjoy.

    • One of the best sunsets in the Hills the elevation means it stays cool and breezy on hot days, and the late-afternoon view over the district is the standout.

    Tips

    • Time it for the first Sunday: the homestead and farm buildings only open then, 9am to 12pm, with tours (gold coin) and $7 Devonshire teas. Every other day it is grounds only.

    • Bring a kite and a picnic rug: the open hilltop is made for it, and with very little natural shade a rug plus a gazebo or umbrella makes a big difference.

    • Go late afternoon: the sunset over the Hills from the top is the highlight, and it is cooler once the sun drops.

    • Slow going with a pram: the access drive up is unsealed and a little steep, so take it easy with a stroller.
