    Description

Reached on foot through the Royal Botanic Garden or The Domain, "the Boy" is a glamorous 50m outdoor saltwater pool perched above Woolloomooloo Bay, with a sundeck, a harbourside cafe and Navy-ship views. This swimming pool in The Domain, Sydney is a seasonal summer institution, so it closes over the cooler months and you'll want to check before you make the trek down.

    Why We Love It

    • One of the prettiest pools in the country a 50m saltwater pool overlooking the harbour and Garden Island, a proper Sydney summer rite of passage.

    • A heated 20m pool just for the little ones the second pool sits at roughly 1m deep throughout and is warmed to around 28C, so young swimmers aren't stuck out of their depth.

    • Saltwater, not chlorine both pools are chemically treated saltwater, which is kinder on little eyes and sensitive skin.

    • A garden walk is built into the visit the approach through the Royal Botanic Garden and The Domain turns the journey there and back into a free green outing.

    • Set up for a half-day sun lounges, beach umbrellas and the Oh Boy Sydney cafe with harbour views make it easy to settle in while the kids splash.

    • Set up for accessibility a pool hoist, aqua wheelchair, lift to the pool deck and accessible changerooms mean more families can get in the water.

    • Onsite cafe (Pool Deck cafe) to fuel up after energy burning fun in the pool.

    Tips

    • Check it's open before you go: it's a seasonal pool, open roughly 1 September to 30 April and shut over winter, so don't trek down in July.

    • Walk in through the Botanic Garden: the approach through the gardens is half the charm and pram-friendly, though it's a fair stroll from the nearest station.

    • Claim a sundeck spot early on hot days: weekends fill the deck fast in peak summer, so arrive in the morning.

    • Under 3s swim free: entry is cheap for families, with kids 3 to 16 at the child rate and a family ticket if you're a group.

    • Pack what you'd take to the beach: hats, sunscreen and towels, since the deck is mostly open and sunny.
